Vande Bharat News: The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will soon link Nagpur with Pune and Mumbai to boost rail travel in Maharashtra. This development was confirmed by Vinayak Garg, the newly appointed Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Nagpur, who revealed that a proposal for this service has been submitted to the Railway Board by the Central Railway's Nagpur division. The proposal is currently being reviewed, with the goal of improving passenger connectivity on these busy routes.
Nagpur To Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper Train
At present, the journey from Nagpur to Mumbai takes around 16 hours by mail train, while superfast options take about 12 to 13 hours. The Duronto Express provides a faster option, reaching Mumbai in approximately 11 to 12 hours. The introduction of Vande Bharat trains is expected to significantly reduce travel time to just 10 hours for the Nagpur-Mumbai route and three hours for Nagpur-Pune.
Currently, train services from Nagpur to Pune are limited, with the Nagpur-Pune Superfast Express and Garib Rath Express operating three times a week, while the Humsafar Express runs once weekly. Passengers also rely on the Azad Hind Express and Hatia-Pune Superfast Express. The situation worsens during peak travel seasons, such as festivals.
The Nagpur-Mumbai route has even fewer options, featuring only two trains: the Vidarbha Express and the Sevagram Express, resulting in longer waiting times for travellers.
Nagpur Junction
The Hindustan Times report quoted Garg as mentioned the importance of Nagpur as a critical junction in the national railway network, noting that over 125 trains operate daily from the city. He stated, “The Vande Bharat Sleeper train service will enhance connectivity and convenience for passengers,” and added that the service is expected to launch soon.
The introduction of these high-speed sleeper trains aims to meet the growing demand for faster, more comfortable travel. Passenger numbers on the Nagpur-Pune and Nagpur-Mumbai routes have surged in recent years, often exceeding the capacity of existing trains. Consequently, many travellers have turned to road transport, which is less efficient.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains promise a superior alternative, featuring reduced travel times, enhanced safety and modern amenities designed for overnight journeys.
