Pune News: A senior bank official on Thursday died by suicide at his workplace in Pune's Baramati, allegedly due to work-related stress. The officials stated that the suicide note recovered from his office mentioned the stress; however, he did not blame any individual. Shivshankar Mitra, the deceased, was serving a notice period after resigning on July 11, citing health and work-related issues. Mitra's wife informed the police after he did not arrive home even after 11 pm, leading to suspicions. Earlier on Thursday, the deceased had asked all the employees to leave the office, adding that he would close the branch by himself.
While providing details, the officials stated that Mitra died by suicide around 10 pm, adding that the full incident has been captured by the bank's CCTV cameras. "After banking hours, Mitra asked all the staff to leave saying he would close the branch. The watchman left around 9.30 pm. Mitra had earlier asked a colleague to bring a rope. At around 10pm, he hanged himself with this rope. The incident has been captured by the bank's CCTV cameras," one of the officials was quoted as saying by PTI.

"When Mitra did not return home or respond to calls, his wife reached the bank around midnight. She found the lights on. After getting no response from inside, she alerted the bank staff. When the branch was opened, Mitra was found hanging from the ceiling. In a note recovered from the scene, Mitra cited work pressure as the reason for his extreme step," the official added.
The officials further stated that the deceased was also going through mental health-related issues for the past few months. The police have registered a case and have begun an investigation into the case. Earlier last year, an EY-India employee died due to a work-related issue, leading to a debate over work-life balance in Indian companies.
