Pune: The district administration has enforced prohibitory orders at key tourist spots in Lonavla and Maval taluka to ensure the safety of visitors during the monsoon season until August 31. The orders, issued by District Collector and District Disaster Management Authority Chairman Jitendra Dudi.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi, who also heads the District Disaster Management Authority, issued the orders under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023. These measures are aimed at ensuring tourist safety and maintaining law and order during the monsoon tourism season.

Restricted Destination In And Near Pune 

The restrictions, enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, apply to several popular tourist destinations, including Ekvira Devi Temple, Karla and Bhaje Caves, Bhaje Waterfall, Lohagad, Visapur, and Tikona forts, as well as Tiger Point, Lion's Point, Shivling Point, and Pavana Dam in the region.

"Tourist footfall increases significantly during the monsoon, raising the risk of accidents. The orders are aimed at preventing untoward incidents," officials said, according to TOI report. 

List Of Restricted Activities 

Under the prohibitory orders, the following activities are strictly banned: entering or swimming in fast-flowing water, sitting under waterfalls, taking selfies or videos near cliff edges, slippery curves, or other hazardous areas, consuming alcohol or entering tourist sites while intoxicated, reckless driving, overtaking in dangerous conditions, and stopping vehicles at unsafe locations, among other risky behaviors.

Other Restriction 

The order further prohibits the use of lewd language or gestures, playing loud music or DJ systems, and any actions causing noise, water, or air pollution. Entry of two-wheelers, three-wheelers, cars, and larger vehicles into waterfall, dam, and river zones is also restricted, with exceptions granted only for emergency or essential services.

Violations by individuals, groups, or organisations will result in legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Traffic Advisory 

To prevent traffic congestion and reduce the risk of accidents near popular tourist spots, the District Collector has also issued temporary traffic diversion orders under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and as per the Home Department notification dated May 19, 1990. These orders are applicable across all major tourist locations in the region.
