Pune Metro Update: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on Sunday stated that the operation on the much-awaited Pune Metro Line 3 has been delayed again. The authority stated that the deadline for the construction of the metro line connecting Hinjewadi with Shivajinagar has been extended to March 2026. Earlier on Friday, the executive committee under the additional chief secretary (finance) approved the extension of the deadline. PMRDA commissioner Yogesh Mhase stated that the request for extension of the deadline has received approval from the authorities, adding that the metro route will provide convenience to the residents of several regions.

"The executive committee has cleared the proposal. The new outer limit for the Metro line's completion is March 2026," Mhase was quoted as saying by the Times of India. He further informed that apart from the metro route, an extension has also been granted for the integrated double-deck flyover between University Chowk and E-Square junction. The authority stated that the new deadline for the double-deck flyover is October.

The authority stated that while 85 per cent of the construction is already over, the deadline is being extended due to delays in permission from the multiple authorities.

The commuters on Sunday expressed their frustration on social media platforms over the extension of the deadline by stating that the authority's approach towards this project is very casual. “It feels like the deadline keeps getting pushed every few months. People are losing patience,” a commuter advocacy group member was quoted as saying by Pune Pulse.

The authority stated that the project is likely to provide convenience to the residents of several major regions by reducing traffic congestion and cutting the travel time. Apart from reducing traffic congestion, the project is also to provide a financial boost in the city.
