Pune Metro Update: MahaMetro is reportedly planning to expand the metro services in Pune by connecting two of the key areas, Shivajinagar and Kondhawa. The authority is likely to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this project within three months following the appointment of the consulting agency, reported the Times of India. The expansion of metro services will provide relief to the thousands of commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing the traffic congestion.

Earlier last month, the metro authority assured that the expansion works will commence in Pune in the upcoming months to boost the regional connectivity. The proposed route will significantly improve the connectivity in several key areas of the city, including Kondhwa, NIBM, and Yewalewadi. The project will act as an extension of the ongoing Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro (PMR-3) project.

The officials stated that the agency will be soon appointed, adding that the DPR will be submitted to the state government once it is prepared. "The tenders are in, and we are in the final stages to appoint the agency," a MahaMetro official was quoted as saying by the Times of India. Several local leaders have been demanding for the extension of the metro services for the past few months, citing the slow vehicular movement.

"A dedicated Metro line is essential for this growing area. Authorities should begin a study for this line at the earliest to know the traffic issues and reduce the chaos by implementing the Metro plan,” MLC Yogesh Tilekar stated.
