Swargate-Katraj Metro Line Update: The officials on Sunday stated that the construction of Pune's much-awaited Swargate–Katraj underground metro stretch will start in the next three to four months. They stated that all the detailing related to the project has been done, adding that the construction of this project will provide convenience to thousands of commuters. They stated that the metro line will significantly reduce the traffic congestion in the city.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi had ceremonially inaugurated the route ahead of the last assembly elections, the construction could not be commenced due to several reasons. While inaugurating the route, PM Modi had stated that the boost to Pune metro will give major relief to the residents of nearby regions. MahaMetro recently reissued the tender for the project, signaling that the construction of the 5.46-km underground line might begin soon.
The tender was re-released because a massive controversy sparked after the tender was released for the first time. The first tender had left out two crucial stations—Padmavati and Bibwewadi—leading to a massive protest from the local residents. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar later instructed the authorities to include the two stations, leading to the closure of the protest. The latest tender includes these stations and stated that the interested contractors have a 40-day time period to respond to the tender.
Major Project Details:
The authority stated that the total length of the project will be 5.46 km and will have a total of 5 stations, including Padmavati and Bibwewadi. It further stated that while the total estimated cost of the ambitious project is Rs 3,647 crore, the additional cost for the construction of two new stations is expected to be around Rs 683 crore. The authority further stated that the project is likely to be completed by 2029, adding that the project will provide a major relief to the residents.

“Due to strong public demand, the two stations were added. The new tender has been floated, and work is likely to begin in 2–3 months,” Executive Director of MahaMetro Hemant Sonawane was quoted as saying by Pune Pulse.
