Pune-Mumbai Expressway: The 13-kilometer-long 'missing link' on the Pune-Mumbai expressway is reportedly set to be open for commercial use on May 1. The officials stated that the inauguration of the link near Lonavala will provide convenience to thousands of commuters by reducing the traffic congestion and cutting the travel time between the two cities by at least 30 minutes. Along with boosting the regional connectivity, the stretch is also expected to improve the financial activities in the region. The officials stated that the construction work is ongoing, adding that the link is set to be opened for public use on May 1 (Maharashtra Day).

While providing details, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) joint managing director Rajesh Patil stated that the construction work for the project is already 98 per cent completed, adding that it is set to be fully completed ahead of the deadline. “The missing link project near Lonavla is 98 per cent complete, and the construction is progressing steadily. We have a firm target to open the stretch on May 1, which coincides with Maharashtra Day," Patil was quoted as saying by The Times of India (TOI) on Monday.

Apart from this, Maharashtra Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal also visited the construction site on Sunday and instructed the officials to complete the project on time without compromising on the safety measures.

Features Of 'Missing Link'

- Begins at Khopoli and ends at the Sinhgad Institute

- It will have two eight-lane tunnels.

- While one of the tunnels will be 1.75 km long, another one's length will be 8.92 km.

- It will also have two eight-lane viaducts of lengths 790 m and 650 m.

The vehicular movement on the missing link will allow the commuters to bypass the Lonavla-Khandala ghat section, ensuring a significant cut in the travel time.
