Pune Rain: The continuous rainfall for the past few days in Pune has massively affected the transportation of the city due to waterlogging in key areas. A video has gone viral from the Hinjewadi IT Park area on the social media platforms, showing vehicles as big as buses half-emerged in the water, leading to slow movement. The videos show commuters stuck in traffic congestion in several areas due to waterlogging and damage to the infrastructure. The waterlogging has affected thousands of commuters due to the presence of several key IT companies in the area.
The viral video shows commuters struggling and half-water-immersed Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) buses moving at a slow pace due to the waterlogging. The employees working in the firms located at Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi have been complaining of the poor infrastructure and inconveniences during the monsoon for several years. The area faces the issue of waterlogging after heavy rain, allegedly due to poor construction planning and ongoing metro expansion works.
While sharing the video on social media platform X, NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule stated that the waterlogging has troubled the residents, further asking the concerned authorities to take necessary actions.
"Due to heavy rains, a large amount of water has accumulated near Ryan International School and many other areas in Hinjewadi Phase 2 area. It is doubtful whether there is a system for draining water in this area. Works like cleaning the drains here need to be done on time. But these works do not seem to be done on time. MIDC needs to pay immediate attention to this matter and take long-term measures to prevent water accumulation here in the future and inconvenience the citizens," Sule stated in her post.
The India Meteorological Department on Friday stated that along with other districts of Maharashtra, Pune is likely to receive rainfall for the next few days.
