Pune Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday stated that Pune and other regions of Maharashtra are likely to receive rain and cloudy skies on Monday and Tuesday. The weather department further stated that the city will experience similar weather conditions for at least seven days, providing a major relief to the residents from the heat wave.

The IMD stated that the change in weather conditions will be significant as the city has been facing intense heat over the past few weeks. The maximum temperature in several regions of the city has crossed 40 degrees Celsius in the past few days. While providing details, it stated that regions like Koregaon Park, Lohegaon Shrirur, and Chinchwad have witnessed temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius many times this month.

The weather department stated that summer in Pune has set in early this year, adding that regions of Konkan have also been experiencing heatwaves for the past few days. Former head of weather forecasting at the IMD, Dr Anupam Kashyapi, stated that Pune is likely to receive rain, lightning, and hailstorms in the upcoming few days.

“High temperature and moisture incursion in Maharashtra resulted in atmospheric instability, and thus, cumulonimbus cloud could be formed, especially in the afternoon hours. Short spells of intense rains are likely,” Kashyapi was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

The weather department had also stated that the lack of rain in the winter and the absence of western disturbance have led to the absence of winter in the state. It further stated that the land has failed to cool down due to lack of rain, resulting in mercury rising. Apart from this, the Maharashtra government has also instructed the schools to not operate after the morning hours to avoid any inconvenience to the students.
