Pune News: Pune witnessed a disturbing road rage incident, in which a woman allegedly drove her car for nearly 2 km with a cab driver clinging to the bonnet. The incident took place on January 17 on the Sangamwadi-Shahdawal Dargah Road and came to light only after videos went viral on social media.

Police arrested the woman, a resident of Baner, on Tuesday. She was later released on bail by a city court.

According to police, the woman was travelling from Yerawada to Shivajinagar around 3 PM when her car hit a motorcycle on Sangamwadi Road. The biker, his wife and their child fell on the road and suffered minor injuries.

A cab driven by Ram Rathod, 34, was travelling behind her car. When the woman allegedly tried to reverse her vehicle, it hit Rathod’s cab. Rathod then followed her car, blocked it and stood in front to stop her from leaving the spot.

Cab Driver Clings To Bonnet

Police said the woman suddenly accelerated her car. To avoid being run over, Rathod jumped onto the bonnet and held on. Instead of stopping, the woman continued driving at a speed of around 50–60 kmph for almost 2 km.

Several motorcyclists chased the car, shouted at the driver and recorded videos of the incident. After repeated signals and warnings, the woman finally stopped. Rathod fell from the bonnet and was taken to a hospital in Shivajinagar, where doctors confirmed a fracture in his hand.

Police Act After Videos Surface

The Times Of India report cited Senior inspector Ravindra Kadam of Laxminagar police station as stating that police came to know about the incident only after the videos circulated online. Rathod’s statement was recorded on Monday, following which the woman was traced using the car’s registration details.

The woman, who works with an NGO, was booked for attempt to commit culpable homicide and rash and negligent driving. Police noted that a similar incident was reported in Kharadi in June 2025, raising concerns over rising road rage cases in the city.
