The Maharashtra Police on Saturday made shocking revelations about the suicide case involving a government hospital doctor in Satara. The police said that the victim was in a relationship with Prashant Banker, who was arrested by the police on late Friday night.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, they were in a relationship before 'it turned sour'.

Banker is a techie and the son of the victim's landlord, whom she accused of mental harassment, apart from Phaltan City police station sub-inspector Gopal Badane, whom she accused of raping her four times.

SI absconding, Prashant sent to police custody

While the SI had been absconding since then, Banker was arrested from a friend's farmhouse near Pune, where he had been hiding. He was presented in the court and was sent to four-day police custody.

The efforts were underway to nab SI Badna, the police said. The report further stated that Banker and the victim were in contact through calls and messages on October 23, shortly before the incident.

On October 23, the doctor, posted as medical officer in a government hospital in Satara on a contractual basis, died by hanging herself in her room. She wrote a suicide note on he palm in Marathi, accusing Badne and Banker.

The victim doctor's family has alleged political and police pressure on the victim. The victim's cousin had alleged that she was forced to make fake post-mortem reports and was often asked to make medical fitness certificates without the patient coming to the hospital.

The family has also alleged political interference in the case, claiming that a local MP was attempting to influence the investigation through an intermediary. However, the Satara Police have not confirmed the claims.
