Mumbai Local Train Viral Video: A heated argument over seating in a Mumbai local train turned into a language-based clash on Friday evening, with one woman reportedly asking fellow passengers to either "Speak Marathi or leave the city". The incident took place in the second-class ladies coach of a fast local train running from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Khopoli.
The train departed from CSMT around 8:15 PM, and the quarrel began after it crossed Byculla station. What started as a verbal spat over seating arrangements escalated when a woman allegedly told another group of passengers, “If you want to live in Mumbai, speak Marathi or get out.” This remark turned the disagreement into a “Marathi vs Hindi” confrontation, drawing reactions from several women in the coach.

When the train reached Mulund station, personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) boarded the coach. However, the home guard could not identify the exact individuals involved and none of the passengers came forward with a complaint. The train continued its journey.

Following the video’s circulation on social media, Kurla GRP has begun efforts to identify the women involved. Officials have planned to monitor the same compartment from Monday to Wednesday to locate and question the passengers seen in the footage. A decision on registering an FIR will be taken later.
The incident comes amid growing political focus on language identity in Maharashtra. Just a day earlier, MNS workers allegedly assaulted a shopkeeper in Vikhroli for a WhatsApp status they claimed insulted the Marathi community.
