Suntera Pawar, wife of Ajit Pawar and Rajya Sabha MP, has been elected as the leader of the NCP Legislative Party at a meeting at Vidhan Bhawan in Mumbai. She will now take the oath as the deputy CM of Maharashtra.
Senior NCP leaders, including Party Working President Praful Patel, State President Sunil Tatkare nd Chhagan Bhujbal, met at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai to propose Sunetra Pawar's name for the post.
The NCP MLAs accepted the proposal and elected her as their leader. She will now take the oath of office as the deputy CM. Before that, she will have to resign from her Rajya Sabha membership.
Sunetra Pawar is widely known in the state for her work in the fields of sustainable development, environmental conservation, and rural empowerment.

Back in 2010, she founded the Environmental Forum of India (EFOI), a non-governmental organisation working for environmental awareness and fostering eco-conscious communities.
She has also led extensive grassroots campaigns on biodiversity conservation, endangered species protection, water resource management, and drought mitigation.
Next, the NCP leaders will meet Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis with an official letter, proposing her name as Deputy CM.
On Fadnavis's recommendation, the Governor will administer to her the oath of secrecy and office at 5 PM. Currently, Maharashtra Governor Devrat Acharya is in Dehradun and is expected to reach Mumbai at 4 PM.
