Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the central and state governments for neglecting farmers and undermining the interests of the people of Maharashtra. Addressing a gathering at the party’s annual rally held at Shivaji Park on Wednesday, Thackeray accused the ruling government of ignoring farmers and people of Maharashtra.

He raised concerns over the lack of effective loan waivers for farmers, calling it a “grave injustice.” “Those in power today are doing injustice to the people of Maharashtra,” Thackeray said, adding that he would not allow Marathi language, culture, or Mumbai to be handed over to any outsider, Jagran.com reported.

Taking aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party, Thackeray likened the party to an “amoeba” which disrupts the body it enters. “Just like an amoeba causes stomach pain, the BJP is disturbing social harmony wherever it goes,” he alleged.

Our Responsibility Is To Protect Marathi Culture: Thackeray

Reaffirming his commitment to Maharashtra, Thackeray questioned why the current state government could not implement loan waivers like those initiated in 2017. “If we could do it, why can’t they?” he asked.

He emphasised that protecting Maharashtra's language, culture, and interests is his top priority. Giving a stern warning, he said, “We will not allow Mumbai or Marathi people to be handed over to outsiders.”

Uddhav Thackeray also spoke in support of Ladakhi social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been recently arrested. From developing solar energy technologies for the Indian Army to advocating for the rights of people in Leh-Ladakh, Thackeray praised Wangchuk’s contribution to the country.

“As long as he wasn’t critical of the PM, there was no issue. But the moment he started raising his voice, he was put behind bars,” he added.

Thackeray Criticises BJP Over GST

The Shiv Sena (UBT) chief, Uddhav Thackeray, also took a dig at the BJP over the recent reforms in Goods and Services Tax (GST). “Why are you celebrating the end of GST? Did Nehru start it? Who introduced it?” he asked sarcastically. Comparing it to a scene from a film, he said, “It’s like prices are first tripled and then slightly reduced to show a fake sense of relief - the same trick is being played here.”
