In a chilling incident, a decomposed body of a woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase near the Mumbai-Pune railway corridor in the Karjat area on Wednesday. The railway patrolling unit found the suitcase at around 12:30 pm along the tracks near Thakurwadi village, Raigad, HT reported.

The patrolling unit informed the Karjat police, upon which a case of murder and evidence destruction was registered. According to the police, the deceased woman is aged between 28-32. Providing details, Surendra Garad, the investigating officer of the case said, "Her face and head had been injured and wrapped in a plastic bag. Her hands and legs were tied using nylon rope. These indicate a clear attempt to conceal her identity and destroy evidence."

The efforts are underway to establish the deceased woman's identity. The postmortem of the body was conducted at a Panvel hospital where her body has been kept.

Garad further said, "The photos of the deceased are being circulated to other police stations in the region to check if the victim’s description matches with any other missing persons in their jurisdictions."

The police took custody of the body and sent it to the JJ Hospital for a postmortem examination.
