Akshaya Tritiya 2025 is an auspicious festival mainly celebrated by Hindus and Jains. This significant day is believed to bring good luck, financial success and eternal prosperity, making it appropriate for the launch of new ventures and important activities. It is believed by many that anything started on Akshaya Tritiya will not only succeed but also grow as well. Besides, it is also called Akti or Akha Teej, the festival that corresponds to the third lunar day of the bright half of the Hindu month of Vaisakha. On this day, which is known as Shukla Paksha Tritiya, families perform prayers, charity and buy precious items like gold, which they consider to be a symbol of divine wealth. Akshaya Tritiya 2025: Significance
Astrologically, Akshaya Tritiya is highly significant because the Sun and Moon are at their brightest and in their highest positions in the sky. Venus also appears in its brightest form. It is believed that on this day, the energies of the world align perfectly, providing a rare cosmic rejuvenation. This alignment triggers a wave of positivity and prosperity throughout the universe. Observed on the third of the lunar day (Tritiya) in the bright half of the moon (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Vaisakha, Akshaya Tritiya also signals the start of Treta Yuga, as referred to in the Narad Purana.
People worship Narayana during this sacred day by offering fragrances and prayers. Numerous others take a spiritual bath in the holy waters of the Ganges to wash off worldly sins. According to guidance in the Narad Purana, the unbroken rice grains are presented to Lord Vishnu by devotees, while rituals with barley flour involve pleasing the Brahmanas.
Those who practice these holy activities are supposed to receive blessings of Lord Vishnu and accolades from other Devas. In Jain tradition, Akshaya Tritiya is observed in reverence of Lord Rishabhadeva, the first Tirthankara, who ended his year-long fast with sugarcane juice presented by King Shreyansa. Devotees observe fast on this day to mark his divine act.

Akshaya Tritiya 2025: Rituals
On Akshaya Tritiya, Lord Vishnu devotees keep a fast and then give charity by donating essentials such as rice, salt, ghee, vegetables, fruits and clothes to the poor. They sprinkle Tulsi water around the house as a divine symbol of Lord Vishnu's blessings. In the Eastern part of India, the day also marks the commencement of the ploughing season among farmers. Businessmen pray to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi before initiating a new book of accounts, termed 'halkhata'. The day is preferred by people to purchase jewellery and gold as it is believed to bring in good luck and prosperity.
Akshaya Tritiya is also a good day to plan weddings, set out on long journeys, start new business or construction ventures. Other important rituals are taking a sacred dip in the River Ganges, giving barley into the sacred fire and making charitable donations. Jains celebrate the end of their one-year tapasya (penance) by consuming sugarcane juice, marking the end of their spiritual practice. Many observe spiritual rituals like meditation and reciting sacred mantras to bring long-term prosperity and peace into their lives. The devotees of Lord Krishna observe the day by applying sandalwood paste to the deity, a practice that is believed to secure them heaven after death.
