Mauni Amavasya 2024: The Amavasya tithi is observed on the last day of the Krishna Paksha. Donating to the needy and taking sacred baths is highly rewarding on the Amavasya tithi. Each Amavasya tithi has a particular significance. Mauni Amavasya is being observed on 9th February 2024. The name Mauni Amavasya comes from Sage Manu, who is thought to have been born on this day.

Mauni Amavasya 2024: Significance Of Mauni Amavasya
The Hindu Panchang states that the Mauni Amavasya, also called the Maghi Amavasya, occurs in the middle of the month of Magha. To receive salvation and have their sins forgiven, devotees bathe in Ganga's sacred water during the entire month of Magha. The holy water of the river Ganga is considered as “Amrit” on the day of Mauni Amavasya. Hence, anyone who takes a bath or drinks the Ganga Jal on that day attains enlightenment.
Mauni Amavasya 2024: Rituals Associated With Mauni Amavasya
- The observers of the Mauni Amavasya wake up early in the morning (during Brahma Muhurat) and take a sacred bath.
- If the devotees can visit Haridwar to take a bath in the Ganges it is highly auspicious, but if not, they must add a few drops of the Ganga Jal in the bucket of water and take a bath.
- People can also perform pind daan and tarpan to provide salvation to the souls of their ancestors.
