Angarki Chaturthi 2025: Significance
Angarki Chaturthi is an important day in the Hindu calendar when devotees worship Lord Ganesha and observe a fast to fulfil their heartfelt desires. The word ‘Angarki’ translates to ‘red like burned coal’ in Sanskrit. On this day, it is believed that worshipping Lord Ganesha and keeping the fast brings blessings from both Lord Ganesha and Lord Mars, leading to a peaceful, contented, and harmonious life. This sacred observance is rooted in religious texts like the Ganesha Purana and Smriti Kaustubha, further highlighting its spiritual significance.
Lord Ganesha, honoured as the supreme lord of intelligence and the remover of obstacles, holds a special place in devotees’ hearts. Worshipping him on Angarki Chaturthi is believed to help overcome challenges, remove hurdles, and attract joy and prosperity. Celebrated twice a year, this occasion is marked with devotion, enthusiasm, and elaborate rituals. Observing Angarki Chaturthi is said to bring benefits equal to keeping the Sankashti Ganesha Chaturthi fast for an entire year, making it one of the most rewarding and spiritually uplifting days for devotees.
Angarki Chaturthi 2025: Rituals
On Angarki Chaturthi, devotees begin their day early with a purifying bath before offering prayers to Lord Ganesha’s idol. Rituals are performed with devotion, and modak, the beloved sweet of Lord Ganesha, is offered after the aarti. Many devotees observe a strict fast, refraining from food from sunrise until the moon is sighted in the evening. Some choose a partial fast, consuming fruits or sabudana khichdi instead. However, excessive fluid intake, along with betel leaves, nuts, and tobacco, is strictly avoided, as these are considered equivalent to breaking the fast and go against the sanctity of the observance.
