The Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat is a fast dedicated to Lord Ganesha, known for removing obstacles. People observe this vrat because it is believed to eliminate troubles from their lives. Devotees believe that worshiping and fasting pleases Lord Ganesha, who then blesses them with wisdom, wealth, and good luck. This fast may also help with mental peace and seeking blessings for progeny. The vrat of Sankashti Chaturthi is only considered complete when one offers water to the moon at night, which is believed to bring happiness.

Ankuratha Sankashti Chaturthi 2025: Rituals

On Sankashti Chaturthi, wake up early in the morning and take a bath. Then, wear red or yellow clothes. Wearing red clothes is especially auspicious on this day. After this, spread a red cloth on a platform, place an idol or photo of Lord Ganesha, and worship him according to the prescribed rituals.

Apply a tilak to Lord Ganesha with roli, kumkum, and unbroken rice grains. Wear a garland of flowers or offer flowers. Offer durva (sunflower), modak (a type of sweet dish), and laddus. Offering sesame laddus on the Chaturthi of Paush month is especially auspicious.

Light incense and a lamp. Recite the Sankashti Vrat Katha and perform Lord Ganesha's aarti. Break the fast after seeing the moon at night. Eat only sattvik food when breaking the fast.
