This ritual is believed to purify their bodies and minds, preparing them for the next three days of rigorous fasting. The second day of Chaiti Chhath Puja is observed as Kharana. Devotees fast without water throughout the day and break their fast in the evening after worshipping the Sun God. They consume a special prasad consisting of jaggery-based kheer, roti, and fruits. Following this, devotees embark on a rigorous 36-hour waterless fast.
