Chaitra Navratri 2025: Significance

According to the Brahma Purana, Lord Brahma created the universe on Chaitra Pratipada, marking the first day of the Hindu calendar. Lord Vishnu's Matsya avatar is also said to have incarnated on the third day. The ninth day, Ram Navami, celebrates Lord Rama's birth. Another legend tells the story of Goddess Parvati, who took the form of Goddess Durga, defeating the demon Mahishasura during her nine-day visit to her parents.

Chaitra Navratri honours the divine power of Shakti, symbolising feminine energy. This auspicious period invites spiritual reflection, self-introspection and connection with the Supreme Consciousness. It's an ideal time for meditation, prayer and manifesting desires. Chaitra Navratri 2025: Rituals

Chaitra Navratri celebrations involve prayer and fasting. Before the festivities begin, devotees clean their homes to welcome the Goddess. During the nine-day celebration, devotees observe a fast, consuming satvik foods like potatoes, fruits and curd. They avoid non-vegetarian food, onions and garlic and maintain strict discipline in their behaviour.

The fast is broken on the ninth day after performing 'havan' and performing Kanya Pujan or Kanjak. Devotees spend their days worshipping the Goddess and chanting Navratri mantras. Each day has specific puja rituals, such as 'Ghatasthapana' on the first day and 'Siddhidatri Maha Puja' on the ninth day.

The nine days of Chaitra Navratri are filled with various puja rituals. Each day holds significance, and devotees perform specific rituals to invoke the blessings of the Goddess. The festivities conclude on the ninth day with Ram Navami celebrations.
