Chaitra Navratri begins on Sunday this year. According to tradition, when Navratri starts on a Sunday or Monday, Goddess Durga arrives riding an elephant. As the departure also falls on a Monday, the Goddess will depart riding an elephant as well.

The arrival and departure of Goddess Durga during Navratri are believed to influence the future. If Navratri begins on a Tuesday or Saturday, the Goddess arrives and departs on a horse, indicating potential conflict, struggle and instability. This may lead to war, political unrest, social tension, and calamities.

In contrast, if Navratri starts on a Thursday or Friday, the Goddess arrives and departs in a palanquin, symbolising instability and challenges. However, if Navratri begins on a Wednesday, the Goddess arrives and departs by boat, signifying liberation from calamities and peace in life. This is considered a positive omen, bringing hope and reassurance to devotees.
