During this time, devotees observe penance, austerities and spiritual practices to deepen their connection with the divine. Many take vows of silence, abstain from favourite foods, or limit themselves to a single daily meal. Bathing in holy rivers and participating in religious observances are also common practices. Additionally, no auspicious tasks are performed during the course of these four months. This year, Chaturmas is set to begin on 6th July 2025, with Devshayani Ekadashi.

Chaturmas 2025: Significance Of This Four Month Period
In Hinduism, Chaturmas is a sacred four-month period when Lord Vishnu is believed to sleep, leaving the world's governance to Lord Shiva. This period, which spans from Sawan to Kartik, is considered inauspicious for undertaking new ventures or auspicious activities.
During Chaturmas, Lord Vishnu is said to reside in Pataal Lok, resting in Yog Nidra, while Lord Shiva takes care of the world. This period is marked by spiritual practices, penance and devotion. Devotees often observe vows, fast and worship Lord Shiva, particularly in the Shravan month. The period begins with Devshayani Ekadashi, marking Lord Vishnu's slumber, and ends with Prabodhini Ekadashi, when he awakens.
