Chhath Puja 2023: Who Is Chhathi Maiya?
Sacred Hindu scriptures suggest that Chhathi Maiya is the daughter of Lord Brahma and the goddess associated with prosperity and abundance who provides good health and success to the offspring. The Puranas hold that Lord Brahma split himself into two pieces during the creation of the universe. Lord Brahma’s right side appeared as a Man and his left side appeared as nature (Prakriti Devi). Following that, Prakriti Devi, the nature goddess split herself into six parts for creation. Shashthi Devi, often referred to as Chhathi Maiya, was the sixth portion.
