Chhoti Diwali 2023: In the Hindu calendar, Chhoti Diwali, also known as Narak Chaturdashi, occurs on the fourteenth day of the month of Kartik. In India, it's observed the day before Diwali. It is a festival honouring the Hindu deity "Yamraj," also known as the Lord of Death. It is also the day that Lord Krishna defeated the demon king known as Narakasura. Narak Chaturdashi, also known as the Chathurdashi day of the Krishna Paksha of that month, is the fourteenth day of the month when the moon is in the decreasing phase.  Let us check out the significance and the story associated with this auspicious day. The festival is also known as Kali Chaudas, Narak Chaudas, Roop Chaudas, Choti Diwali, Narak Nivaran Chaturdashi, or Bhoot Chaturdashi in various parts of the nation. 

Chhoti Diwali 2023: Significance of Narak Chaturdashi 

Naraka Chaturdashi is observed as Kali Chaudas, Roop Chaudas, and Bhoot Chaturdashi in different regions of India. In Maharashtra, Naraka Chaturdashi is observed as Abhyang Snan. Some individuals celebrate Deepavali and Chhoti Diwali on the same day. People decorate their homes, light clay lamps, worship Lord Krishna, and carry out elaborate ceremonies to commemorate Choti Diwali with great fervour and grandeur.

Chhoti Diwali 2023: Story Of Narak Chaturdashi 

Hindu sacred texts asset that once, a demon named Narakasura kidnapped and tortured 16,000 women, or gopis. The demonic being was defeated by Lord Krishna and his wife Satyabhama, saving all the women. For this reason, the victory of good over evil is celebrated on Choti Diwali, also known as Naraka Chaturdashi. Hindus believe that after Lord Krishna freed the gopis from Narakasura's grasp, he accepted all of them as his wives. People carry out special ceremonies by worshipping Lord Krishna and Bhudevi as Goddess Satyabhama on the occasion of Chhoti Deepavali.
