Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2024: Puja Vidhi

On Prabodhini Ekadashi, devotees begin the day with a purifying bath in holy rivers or water bodies before sunrise. This sacred bath is considered more beneficial than bathing in prominent Hindu pilgrimages. Devotees then observe a strict fast, abstaining from food and water throughout the day. In the evening, they visit Lord Vishnu temples to participate in puja rituals.

The day's worship includes drawing Lord Vishnu's picture and covering it with a brass plate to symbolize his sleep. Devotees offer lamps, fruits, and vegetables, singing bhakti songs and praying for Lord Vishnu's awakening and blessings. Children create noise and light mustard torches to "wake" Lord Vishnu. This day also marks the sacred marriage ceremony of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Tulsi, known as Tulsi Vivah, which may also take place the following day. This joyous occasion is filled with devotion, prayer, and celebration, seeking Lord Vishnu's blessings for prosperity and happiness.

Fasting on Prabodhini Ekadashi brings immense blessings, equivalent to performing hundreds of Rajasuya yagya and thousands of Ashwamedha yagya. Devotees receive splendour, wealth, intellect, kingdom, and happiness. This sacred day also forgives sins, including severe ones, and rescues ancestors from hell, guiding them to moksha and Vaikuntha.

Worshipping Lord Vishnu with fruits, camphor, and saffron yields immense blessings. Reading or listening to the Bhagavata, singing devotional songs, and using Tulasi leaves in worship bring salvation and protection from hell. Observing vrat on Prabodhini Ekadashi ensures pleasure, spiritual growth, and divine pleasure. Lord Vishnu's blessings are abundant on this day, making it a vital observance in Hindu culture.
