Dhanteras 2024: Marking the start of Diwali celebrations - Dhanteras falls on the 13th day of the Krishna Paksha in Kartik Maas. Originally honouring Dhanvantari, the Ayurveda founder, it now also venerates Goddess Lakshmi, the embodiment of wealth and prosperity, and Lord Kuber, the god of wealth. The day signifies buying new utensils and jewellery for good fortune. 'Dhan' means wealth, and 'Teras' means thirteen, symbolising Lakshmi's blessings. The auspicious Puja, often performed jointly for Lakshmi and Kuber, is believed to double the benefits. Preceded by Vagh Baras and followed by Kali Chaudas or Narak Chaturdashi, Dhanteras kicks off the five-day Deepavali festivities, ushering in prosperity, luck, and divine blessings, setting the tone for a joyous and illuminating Diwali. This year, Dhanteras is being observed on 29th October 2024.

Dhanteras 2024: Significance
Dhanteras, a celebration of prosperity, combines "Dhan" (wealth) and "Teras" (thirteenth). This auspicious day marks the beginning of Diwali festivities, where acquiring new assets, jewellery, and utensils is believed to bring good fortune. Devotees honour Goddess Lakshmi, the embodiment of wealth and success, by illuminating their homes with diyas and candles, welcoming her presence.
As the legend of Dhanvantari's emergence highlights the importance of health, Dhanteras becomes a festival of overall well-being. Homes are thoroughly cleaned and decorated, symbolizing the cleansing of both physical and spiritual selves. Maa Lakshmi is said to grace only tidy and well-maintained homes. This day is also an opportunity to share joy with loved ones through thoughtful Dhanteras gifts. By embracing this celebration, individuals invite health, wealth, success, happiness, and harmony into their lives, setting a positive tone for the festive season ahead.

Offer coins, gold or silver jewellery, and other valuable items to the lord.
