Kalashtami March 2025: Kala Ashtami or Kalashtami is a significant Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Bhairav. It's observed monthly on the eighth day of the waning moon phase, known as Krishna Paksha Ashtami Tithi. This day is considered ideal for appeasing Lord Kaal Bhairav. Throughout the year, Kalashtami is observed 12 times, providing devotees with multiple opportunities to connect with Lord Bhairav and demonstrate their devotion. This year, Kalashtami in the Hindu month of Chaitra will be observed on 22nd March 2025.

Kalashtami March 2025: Significance
The significance of Kalashtami is highlighted in the Aditya Purana. The name Kaal Bhairay translates to God of Time - with 'kaal' meaning 'time' and 'Bhairav' referring to Shiva's manifestation. Devotees of Lord Shiva worship Kaal Bhairav with great devotion, seeking his powerful blessings.
According to Hindu legend, Lord Shiva transformed into Mahakaleshwar and beheaded Brahma's fifth head after a heated argument. Since then, Kaal Bhairav has been revered by humans and gods alike. Worshipping Lord Shiva on Kalashtami is believed to bring generous blessings. Additionally, devotees trust that paying homage to Lord Bhairav on this day will eradicate suffering, pain, and negative influences from their lives, ushering in a brighter future.
Kalashtami March 2025: Rituals
Kalashtami is a significant day for Lord Shiva devotees. To mark this occasion, they wake up before sunrise, take an early bath, and perform a special puja to Kaal Bhairav, seeking his blessings and forgiveness for their sins. In the evening, devotees visit Lord Kaal Bhairav's temple to offer special prayers.
On Kalashtami, devotees also pay tribute to their dead ancestors through special puja and rituals in the morning. Many observe a strict fast throughout the day, while some dedicated devotees keep a night-long vigil, listening to stories of Mahakaleshwar. By observing the Kalashtami Vrat, devotees are blessed with prosperity, happiness and success in their lives.
Devotees also engage in other auspicious activities, such as reciting the Kaal Bhairav Katha and chanting Lord Shiva's mantras. Feeding dogs, considered Lord Bhairav's vehicle is also a customary practice, with dogs being offered milk, curd and sweets. Additionally, offering food to Brahmins at Hindu pilgrim sites like Kashi is deemed highly rewarding.
