In Vishnu temples, Abhishek, puja, aarti and bhajans are performed throughout the day. Lamps are lit, and a variety of Bhog is offered to Lord Vishnu. According to a legend, a landlord, consumed by anger, accidentally killed a Brahmin during a dispute. Overwhelmed with regret, he sought to participate in the Brahmin's last rites, but the villagers refused. Desperate to atone for his sin, the landlord consulted a sage, who advised him to observe Kamika Ekadashi by fasting and worshipping Lord Vishnu. That night, Lord Vishnu appeared in his dream, relieving him of his sins. This story showcases the vrat's power to cleanse even the gravest of sins.
The significance of Kamika Ekadashi was narrated by Lord Brahma to his son, Sage Narada. According to legend, this sacred day can eradicate even the sin of killing a Brahmin. Lord Brahma assured Narada that those who observe the Ekadashi Vrat or simply listen to its glory will attain Vaikuntha, the divine realm.
