Karthigai Deepam 2023: The auspicious festival of Karthigai Deepam is a sacred event celebrated in Tamil Nadu and its neighbouring states like Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. For Tamils, it is a significant festival. This sacred day holds an equal importance like Diwali and devotees light their homes with diyas on this day. On the full moon day of the Karthigai month (Kartik Maas), which falls on the Karthigai star, the festival of Karthigai deepam is observed.
In addition, this month holds particular significance as it is Muruga's birth month. This festival, called Thirukarthikai in Kerala, is observed to welcome Goddess Katyayani (Chottanikkara Amma) Bhagavati. In the north and west parts of the country, this festival is known as Kartik Purnima. This year, the Karthigai Deepam festival will be celebrated on 26th November 2023.

Karthigai Deepam 2023: Significance And Rituals Of This Festival
In Tamil Nadu, Karthikai vilakkidu is another name for Karthikai Deepam. It is also known by varied names like Bharani Deepam, Vishnu Deepam, Tirrukartikai, Karthikai Natchathiram, Trikartika, and Kartika Villaku. It is known as Karthika Deepam or Thrikarthika in Kerala. On Karthigai Deepam, people light diyas under the full moon. During the month of Karthigai, people celebrate the Karthika Deepam festival and ask the Lord for blessings.

Karthigai Deepam is another significant festival of lights celebrated in India. In Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, it is regarded as one of the most important festivals celebrated by the ancient Tamil people.
