Karwa Chauth 2025: is a significant Hindu festival celebrated by married Hindu women. This sacred day is observed on the fourth day after the full moon, during the Kartik month in the Hindu calendar. Married women fast from sunrise to moonrise, praying for their husbands' well-being, longevity and prosperity. The fast is broken after sighting the moon and offering prayers. It is a celebration of marital love, devotion and commitment, showcasing the bond between a husband and wife. This year, Karwa Chauth falls on 10th October 2025, Friday.
Newly married women observing the Karwa Chauth Vrat for the first time must observe certain dos and don’ts to ensure marital bliss and the sanctity of this day. Below, we have listed some important guidelines to follow on Karwa Chauth Vrat:
Karwa Chauth 2025: Dos And Don’ts Newly Married Women Must Follow While Observing This Vrat First Time
1. Eat Sargi During Brahma Muhurat Before Sunrise
The Karva Chauth fast commences with a pre-dawn meal called Sargi, typically consisting of foods like fruits, sweets, and dried fruits, accompanied by water. This wholesome meal is believed to provide the energy needed to sustain the fast from sunrise to moonrise. In fact, Sargi is considered an essential part of the Karva Chauth rituals, and without it, the fast is deemed incomplete. Women often receive this meal from their mothers-in-law or elders as a gesture of love and blessings, adding a touching element to the celebration.
2. Avoid Wearing Inauspicious Colours Like Black And White
On Karwa Chauth, it's considered auspicious to wear vibrant colours like red, pink, and yellow, which symbolise love, happiness and prosperity. Conversely, it's best to avoid wearing black or white, as these colours are believed to be inauspicious on this sacred day, potentially bringing negativity or misfortune. According to Hindu beliefs, black and white colours represent widowhood and mourning, and hence, must be avoided by married women.
3. Avoid Using Scissors, Knives And Needles On This Day
On Karwa Chauth, it's advisable to avoid using sharp objects like scissors, needles, and knives, as it's believed that doing so may reduce the spiritual benefits of the fast. This day is all about devotion, love, and positivity, so it's best to steer clear of anything that might be considered inauspicious.
