Khichdi Utsav Radhavallabh Mandir 2025: Significance
The Khichdi Utsav is an ancient celebration in the Shri Radhavallabh Sampradaya tradition. This festival was initiated by Goswami Shri Hit Kamal Nayan Ji Maharaj, who brought Shri Hit Radhavallabh Lalji back to Vrindavan from Kamvan after 123 years and established him in the new Shri Hit Radhavallabh Lal Mandir. The Khichdi Utsav commences on Paush Shukla Dwitiya and continues for a month.
During the festival, the Nitya Samaj gathers daily at 5 AM to sing a series of 34 padas (verses). The verses are divided into sections, including Siddhant, Suratant Keeli, Bhog, and Aarti. Following the Aarti, devotees witness the divine darshan of Shri Radhavallabh Lalji in various attire. On specific days, such as Ekadashi, Chaudas, and Poornima, the deity is adorned in distinct costumes, including Bihariji, Shankarji, and Yugal Darshan.
The Khichdi Utsav is characterised by an elaborate display of Raga-Bhoga, featuring a diverse array of culinary delights. Devotees prepare and offer various dishes daily, accompanied by the singing of Bhoga padas. This festive celebration showcases the rich cultural heritage and spiritual traditions of the Shri Radhavallabh Sampradaya.
