The significance of Sharad Purnima is also reflected in ancient stories. One tells of a poor Brahmin, Valit, whose devoted practice of the Kojagiri Vrata brought Goddess Lakshmi’s blessings, transforming his fortunes and family life. Another story recounts a Bengali king who lost prosperity after an unsold idol of Goddess Alakshmi was placed in his temple. Following divine advice, the queen observed the Kojagiri Vrata, inviting Goddess Lakshmi back and restoring the kingdom’s wealth. These tales highlight Sharad Purnima’s power to bring divine blessings, prosperity, and harmony, emphasising the importance of devotion and faith during this sacred full moon night.

Kojagiri Purnima 2025: Rituals

Sharad Purnima is believed to be the only night when the moon shines with all sixteen Kala, symbolising divine qualities. Milk left under the full moon is said to acquire medicinal properties, offering health benefits and relieving ailments. Many devotees observe fasts as part of the Kojagiri Vrata, worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Chandra Dev with devotion. Women clean their homes, decorate with Rangoli, and prepare moonlit offerings like kheer or masala milk to be consumed at midnight.

The night of Sharad Purnima is also a time of celebration and cultural rituals. In Gujarat, communities come alive with Garba dances, bringing together people in joyous festivity under the moonlit sky. Devotees embrace the spirit of devotion while enjoying music, rhythm, and togetherness. These traditional dances create an atmosphere of harmony and happiness, blending spiritual significance with cultural vibrancy.
