Krichchhra Chaturthi 2025: Significance

Krichchhra Chaturthi is observed on the fourth day of the Shukla Paksha of the Margashirsha month. Devotees perform this fast for four years straight and end it with the Udyapan ritual. Those who keep this fast worship Lord Ganesha with devotion, doing the necessary rituals. It is said to remove life's problems and lead to success. The fast includes doing yearly rituals, giving certain donations, and following customs described in old scriptures.

Krichchhra Chaturthi 2025: Rituals

According to the Skanda Purana, this fast must be observed for four consecutive years. In the first year, devotees eat only once a day on every Chaturthi. In the second year, they eat once at night. In the third year, they consume food without asking for it, known as Ayachit Anna. In the fourth year, a full-day fast is observed in remembrance of Lord Ganesha. Upon completion of this four-year cycle, the fast is concluded with the Udyapan ritual. This ritual concludes the fast, and with the blessings of Lord Ganesha, one attains happiness and peace in life.

To start the Margashirsha Shukla Chaturthi puja, people should bathe in the morning, dress in clean clothes, and make a promise to do the puja. Then, they put a Lord Ganesha idol or photo, wrapped in a red cloth, on a wooden platform in their home temple. After that, they must do the Shodashopachara puja. Offer fragrance, flowers, incense, lighting a lamp, betel leaves, and performing aarti.
