Kurma Jayanti 2025 marks the birth anniversary of Lord Vishnu's tortoise incarnation called "Kurma" in Sanskrit. According to the Hindu calendar, it takes place on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Vaishakh month. As per the Bhagavata Purana, when the ocean (Ksheer Sagar Manthan) was being churned, Lord Vishnu assumed the form of a tortoise to hold up Mount Mandara, which served as the churning rod. Through this act, Lord Vishnu brought equilibrium to the universe. To commemorate this sacred event, devotees observe Kurma Jayanti with worship, rituals and reverence, offering gratitude for the Lord's part in upholding universal harmony. Puja offered to Lord Kurma on this day is thought to ensure long-term success by eradicating evil energies and hindrances from life. It welcomes good health, prosperity and wealth, as well as aids people in overcoming competition and rivalry. Conducting rituals and prayers on Kurma Jayanti is considered to generate a positive and protective atmosphere, making it the right time to start important projects.

Kurma Jayanti 2025: Rituals
On the sacred day of Kurma Jayanti, devotees perform a holy bath early in the morning and wear clean, traditional clothes. They offer prayers to Lord Vishnu with sacred items like Tulsi leaves, incense sticks, sandalwood paste, kumkum, flowers and sweets. Devotees also observe a fast, which is highly auspicious on this day. The observers adopt total austerity, not doing anything sinful or uttering falsehoods, keeping their minds and bodies pure in the daytime.
In the night, the devotees conduct a jaagran, remaining awake and reciting mantras to appease Lord Vishnu. The recitation of the 'Vishnu Sahasranam' brings highly rewarding results on this day and is said to attract blessings from God. Aarti is performed towards the end of the puja. Charity also forms a crucial part during Kurma Jayanti. Offering food, garments or money to the poor or Brahmins is regarded as a pious deed that fetches an enormous reward. By devoting themselves to Vishnu through fasting and acts of charity, devotees pray for peace, protection and prosperity in their lives.
