Legends Surrounding Kaal Bhairav Temple In Ujjain
A debate once ensued among Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh regarding who was the greatest deity. Each presented their claim, but no consensus was reached. The discussion concluded with each deity returning to their respective realms. Brahma, with his five heads, created the four Vedas with four of his heads.
Brahma's intention to create another scripture with his fifth head was discovered by Lord Shiva, who strongly advised against it. However, Brahma disregarded the warning, prompting Shiva's wrath. Shiva's third eye opened, releasing a radiant beam that took the form of a 5-year-old boy, Batuk Bhairav.
Batuk Bhairav, now known as Kaal Bhairav, was infuriated by Brahma's arrogance and pierced his fifth head with his finger, incurring the sin of Brahmahatya. Kaal Bhairav sought Shiva's guidance to atone for his sin and was advised to wander. During his journey, Kaal Bhairav arrived in Ujjain, performed penance, and eventually found redemption from his sin on Bhairav Parvat.
