Magh Month 2026: Magh is considered the most important month in Hinduism. It is said to be a month of charity, penance, and taking sacred dips. Religious texts say that during this month, all the gods and goddesses leave their homes in heaven and come to Earth, staying in the sacred waters of the confluence of rivers. Hence, bathing in holy rivers during Magha can help attain salvation and liberation besides eradicating one's sins. Worshipping Lord Vishnu and Surya Dev during this month is considered especially auspicious. Living a simple life and donating sesame seeds, jaggery, or blankets to the poor are considered among the most virtuous acts during this month.

The month of Magh is marked by several major and joyous festivals in Hinduism. The month begins with the sacred bath of Paush Purnima. It is followed by the festival of Makar Sankranti, which in itself is celebrated with feasting of khichdi and kite flying throughout the country. Then comes the Mauni Amavasya, known to be highly auspicious for silent meditation and spiritual deeds. Basant Panchami also falls during this month, which commemorates the goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge. Finally, the month of devotion concludes Maghi Purnima.
