Magha Shradh 2025: Rituals

Devotees get up early on Magha Shradh day to perform the rituals. The male head of the family performs Shraddha rituals such as tarpan and worships their 'Ishta Deva'. This is followed by Pinda Daan, wherein a pinda is prepared using rice, ghee, cow milk, honey, and sugar, and offered to ancestors with love and reverence. This ritual is essential in satisfying the departed souls.

Tarpan is another vital ritual, in which water along with Kusha grass and black sesame seeds, is offered to the ancestors. This appeases them a lot, and they are said to shower their blessings upon their descendants. Once the puja rituals are completed, food is offered to Brahmins, who are considered a link to ancestors.
