Mahashivratri 2024: One of the most venerated gods in Hinduism, Lord Shiva is venerated on the occasion of Mahashivratri. Mahashivratri means "the great night of Shiva," and it is thought that Lord Shiva performed the cosmic dance of creation and destruction on this night. Additionally, it is also believed to be a sacred occasion when Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati got married. This festival is observed in the Hindu month of Phalguna on the fourteenth night of the new moon.

Mahashivratri 2024: Astrological Significance Of Maha Shivratri 

- Since Mahashivratri occurs on a new moon day, astrologically, it is regarded as an extremely powerful day. New moon days are associated with new beginnings, and when they coincide with a day honouring Lord Shiva, good things are said to come your way. It is also believed that Lord Shiva and his consort, Devi Parvati, tied the knot on this day, which makes it a perfect day for couples to seek blessings for a happy marriage. 

- Shivratri occurs right before the night of no moon, or "Amavas." The day of Amavasya is a sign of spiritual ignorance or Kaliyuga. Just before the start of Kaliyuga, Lord Shiva arrived to purge ignorance and evil from this planet.
