Margashirsha Amavasya 2025 is also known as Agahan Amavasya. It falls on the 15th day of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Margashirsha. There is a tradition of making donations, taking a sacred dip in rivers, and performing Tarpan and Shradh rituals in honour of ancestors on Margashirsha Amavasya. Margashirsha Amavasya 2025: Significance
Taking a sacred dip, donating and performing Pitri Karma on Amavasya gives immense benefits. Therefore, it should be done on this day. It is best to donate blankets, jaggery, ghee, sesame seeds, sesame laddus, or money on Amavasya Tithi. The Margashirsha month is considered very sacred. Lord Krishna has described the importance of this month in the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. Hence, a special puja is performed on the Amavasya of this month.
Amavasya Tithi is also considered special for the Pitri Karma of ancestors. On this day, food is offered to the ancestors in the afternoon by offering Agyari, and water is offered to the Sun. This satisfies the ancestors, and one does not have to suffer the negative consequences of Pitra Dosh. Devotees also worship Lord Shiva and Lord Narayan on this pious day.

Margashirsha Amavasya 2025: Rituals
The devotees must purify their house with water mixed with Ganga water or turmeric on Margashirsha Amavasya after taking a sacred bath. Create a place of worship in the east or north, and install an image of Lakshmi and Narayan. Light a ghee or sesame oil diya in front of the deities. Additionally, offer flowers, rice grains, turmeric, kumkum, and sweets to Lord Lakshmi Narayan. Perform the puja with devotion, chanting the mantras "Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya" and "Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah."
Devotees can also make offerings to the pitra dev or ancestors using black sesame seeds and water. Light a diya made of sesame seeds or flour near a peepal tree or Tulsi plant in the evening, as it is considered to bring favourable results. Make sure to donate to the needy in the name of your ancestors to seek their blessings for a smooth and prosperous life.
