Margashirsha Amavasya 2025: The no moon day of the month of Margashirsha is highly significant as it is one of the dearest months of Lord Krishna. This year, the devotees will celebrate Margashirsha Amavasya on 20th November 2025. In the Hindu religion, Amavasya or the no moon days are considered highly significant for the worship of ancestors and performing Dev Puja. It is believed that any spiritual deed or any action performed in the name of the ancestors on this day is believed to bring their blessings for success and good fortune.

Let us learn how to perform pujas to appease the ancestors along with the gods and goddesses on the Amavasya tithi of the Margashirsha month.

Margashirsha Amavasya 2025: Vidhi To Perform Pitra Puja And Tarpan

Before performing the Tarpan on Margashirsha Amavasya, purify your body and mind. Sprinkle Ganga Jal on the place where you are performing Tarpan and light a lamp. After this, place the picture of the deceased person for whom you are performing Tarpan in the south direction and invoke the ancestors through mantras. After this, place Kusha, black sesame and white flowers in a pot filled with water and offer water to the ancestors while chanting the mantra Om Pitribhyaha Swadha. After offering water, remember the ancestors and ask for their forgiveness for your mistakes and pray for the happiness and prosperity of your clan and family.

Margashirsha Amavasya 2025: Vidhi To Perform Dev Puja

The Hindu scriptures suggest that devotees should visit a sacred water body to bathe, meditate, and donate. After purifying oneself in body and mind on this sacred day, one should first offer prayers to Surya Narayana. After this, one should worship Lord Hari or his complete incarnation, Lord Krishna, according to the prescribed rituals. To receive Lord Hari's blessings on Margashirsha Amavasya, the devotees are advised to specifically recite the Shri Vishnu Chalisa or the Shri Vishnu Sahasranamam Stotram. The devotees can also offer flowers, incense, white sweets, and Tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu or Lord Krishna on this pious day.

Additional Rituals To Perform On Margashirsha Amavasya

The devotees must donate food, clothing, money, and other items to the needy, as well as provide food for cows, dogs, and crows on Margashirsha Amavasya to seek divine blessings. According to Hindu belief, practising this ritual on Amavasya removes all hardships from life and bestows the blessings of ancestors and Shri Hari Vishnu.
