Lord Shiva and Lord Murugan are worshipped on the sacred occasion of Masik Karthigai Vratham. It is believed that fasting on this sacred occasion provides the boon of good health, removes obstacles and helps in attaining success and prosperity with the grace and blessings of Lord Kartikeyan.
During Masik Karthigai, the devotees carry out rituals to get blessings from Lord Murugan. They light oil lamps called deepams in their homes and temples.
