Meerabai Jayanti 2025: Significance
According to the Hindu legends, Meera Bai was born in 1498 in Kudki, Rajasthan, to King Ratan Singh and Queen Veer Kanwar. After her mother's early demise, Meera was cared for by her grandparents, who instilled in her a deep devotion to Lord Vishnu. She was taught religion, politics, and music, but her heart belonged to Lord Krishna. In 1516, she married Bhoj Raj, Prince of Mewar, but her love for Krishna only grew stronger. Her in-laws disapproved of her devotion, subjecting her to mental harassment and attempts on her life.

She composed immortal poems, sang bhajans, and danced in the streets, lost in her love for the divine. Meera sought spiritual guidance from Guru Ravidas and other saints. In her later years, she travelled to Vrindavan and Dwarka, spreading her message of love and devotion. According to legend, she miraculously merged with Krishna's idol in Dwarka in 1547.
