Papankusha Ekadashi 2025 is a sacred Hindu fasting day observed on the eleventh day of the Shukla Paksha in the lunar month of Ashwin. This day, also called Ashwina-Shukla Ekadashi, is devoted to Lord Padmanabha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Devotees observe the fast with sincere devotion, performing prayers and rituals to seek his divine blessings. Observing Papankusha Ekadashi with faith is believed to bring spiritual merit, peace of mind, and prosperity, allowing devotees to experience both inner fulfilment and worldly comforts through the grace of Lord Padmanabha. This year, Papankusha Ekadashi falls on 3rd October 2025.
Check out the list of dos and don’ts to observe on this day to receive the choicest blessings of Lord Vishnu below:
Dos And Don’ts To Follow On Papankusha Ekadashi
Avoid Black Clothes
According to traditional beliefs, wearing black clothing on Papankusha Ekadashi is considered inauspicious. Devotees seeking the blessings of Lord Vishnu are encouraged to wear yellow attire instead, as it is thought to invite positivity and divine grace. Choosing the right colour reflects devotion and respect, helping one connect spiritually and enhance the auspiciousness of the day.
Avoid Non-Vegetarian Food And Alcohol
On Papankusha Ekadashi, it is advised to refrain from consuming meat, alcohol, or any tamasic food that can disturb the mind and body. Observing a pure diet is believed to keep the body and mind aligned with the spiritual energy of the day. Consuming prohibited foods may attract negative consequences and diminish the blessings of Lord Vishnu.

Avoid Rice And Rice-Based Dishes
Devotees observing Papankusha Ekadashi should avoid rice or dishes made from rice. It is traditionally believed that consuming rice on this day makes one partake in sin. Instead, fasting or eating sattvic foods that are light and pure is recommended. Observing this rule demonstrates discipline and reverence, strengthening one’s connection with Lord Padmanabha.
Do Not Touch Tulsi Leaves
Tulsi, or holy basil, is extremely dear to Lord Vishnu. On Papankusha Ekadashi, it is customary not to pluck or touch Tulsi leaves as the plant is considered to be observing the fast. Offering Tulsi leaves as part of devotional rituals is encouraged, but respecting its fast by avoiding contact shows deep devotion and spiritual awareness.
Things To Do On Papankusha Ekadashi
Begin the day by performing Lord Vishnu’s puja during an auspicious muhurat. Those not observing a full fast may consume sattvic foods, while those observing the fast should ensure proper vows are made and strictly followed. Breaking the fast after sunrise is considered ideal. Engaging in bhajan, kirtan, and prayers enhances devotion and ensures a spiritually fulfilling day.
