Parshurama Jayanti 2025: Hindu devotees worship the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, Lord Parshuram on the sacred occasion of Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti. The sacred day is observed on the third day of Vaishakh Shukla Paksha. Bhagwan Parshuram was the son of sage Jamadagni and Renuka and married Dharani, an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. He took birth in order to remove evil forces and save the world by killing demons and bad kings. Parshuram is referred to as a Brahma-Kshatriya, meaning he has the blood of both Brahmin and Kshatriya ancestors. In ancient stories, Parshuram was depicted as the God of bravery and protector, and a figure of strength and righteousness. This year, Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti is set to be observed on 29th April 2025.

1. Lord Parashurama is regarded the son of sage Jamadagni and Renuka, and is also the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Furthermore, Parashurama is one of the seven Chiranjivis, or one who has been bestowed with immortality. Parashurama's cliche story reminds us of true devotion and divine power, thus, he is a symbol of power, resilience, and unwavering devotion throughout the generations.
2. The Mahabharata records that Parashurama insisted that Bhishma should marry Princess Amba. However, due to his vow of celibacy, Bhishma refused and this angered Parashurama enough to engage with Bhishma in battle for 23 days. Sage Narada ultimately intervened when Bhishma was about to use a deadly weapon. Narada urged that both parties were upset enough and that before the earth was destroyed and lost.
3. Lord Parashurama impressed Lord Shiva with his penance for several years and consequently received a 'Parashu' or axe. Furthermore, Lord Shiva taught Curse and Martial Art and gave him the boon of immortality. This boon of divine power would shape Parashurama's destiny, where he would be responsible for protecting Earth from evil occurrences and hence restoring the cosmic balance each time it was violated.

4. Parashurama became tired of the violence at the end of the Vedic age and threw his weapons away to live an exemplary life as an ascetic, thereby renouncing the world. According to the Kalki Purana, Parashurama will return at the end of Kali Yuga and will be the spiritual guide for Kalki, taking his ancient wisdom with him to help restore Righteousness yet again.
5. Nath lineages narrate how Parashurama travelled to the house of Dattatreya in search of wisdom on Mount Gandhamadana. In deep speak about scriptures and renunciation, he disassociated himself from the shackles of the eternal cycle of life and death. His journey reminds us that knowledge, reflection, and detachment from the worldly things is the only way to true liberation.
6. According to the legends, it is said that Parshurama created Kerala by throwing his bloodied battle-axe into the sea from Gokarna. Thereafter, it is said that when the axe hit Kanyakumari new land emerged between the two junctions. The miraculous origins of this area also create the name Kerala and speak powerfully to his character as a person who could reshape the earth.
7. In Ramlilas performed in many places in India, it is said that the consort of Lord Rama, Devi Sita went up to a furious Parashurama despite warnings not to. Parashurama was so impressed with her bravery that he blessed her with words for a blissful marriage "Dheergha Sumangali Bhava".
