Pradosh Vrat September 2024: Pradosh Vrat, or Pradosham, is a revered Hindu observance honouring Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This sacred fasting day falls on the 13th day (Trayodashi tithi) of each lunar fortnight, occurring twice monthly in the Hindu calendar. Specifically, it is observed during both the waning moon phase (Krishna Paksha) and the waxing moon phase (Shukla Paksha). Devotees typically fast and engage in spiritual practices to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, seeking forgiveness, prosperity, and spiritual growth. This year, Pradosh Vrat in Ashwina month’s Krishna Paksha will be observed on 29th September 2024. As it is falling on a Sunday, this sacred fast will be a “Ravi Pradosh Vrat”.

To observe Pradosh Vrat, devotees begin by bathing before sunset, then commence their fast. They worship Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Nandi, offering sacred items to seek divine blessings. The Shivlinga is reverently offered milk and water.
The ritual continues with a Kalash filled with water, topped with Durva grass and a lotus design. Devotees offer flowers, betel nuts, betel leaves, coins, and rice to the deity. Chanting Lord Shiva's potent Maha Mrityunjaya mantra 108 times and applying sacred ash to the forehead completes the ritual.
