The significance of Pradosh Vrat is mentioned in the sacred texts like the Skanda Purana and the Shiva Purana. This auspicious fast is highly significant because it is connected to the story of Samudra Manthan, when the Devas and Asuras churned the cosmic ocean.

Pradosh Vrat September 2025: Rituals

To observe Pradosh Vrat, start with a purifying bath before sunset. Then, worship Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Nandi with utmost devotion.

As part of the ritual, offer milk and water to the Shivlinga to show purity and devotion. Fill a Kalash with water, place Durva grass on top, and draw a lotus upon it. Offer flowers, betel nuts, betel leaves, coins and rice to the deity as offerings of respect and thanks.
