Pushkar Mela 2023: For Sikhs and Hindus alike, Pushkar is a sacred pilgrimage place. This village is surrounded by 400 temples and is located by the sacred Pushkar Lake, which has 52 bathing ghats. Pushkar Lake is the reason Pushkar became a Hindu pilgrimage site. The lake is thought to have been blessed by Lord Brahma, the Hindu creator of the cosmos. A pool was created in the exact spot where he had dropped a lotus blossom. Actually, the Sanskrit term Pushkar, which means "blue lotus," is also the source of the name Pushkar. Similar to Mansarovar Lake in Tibet, Pushkar Lake is also renowned. One of India's oldest cities, Pushkar is also referenced in our epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. The sacred site is also renowned for the Pushkar Mela. This fair is held annually on the Purnima tithi of the Kartik Maas, the Hindu lunar month with great enthusiasm. The most auspicious time to offer prayers is thought to be on the full moon night of the Hindu Kartik month. For the same reason, many devotees swarm to this historic town to immerse themselves in the sacred waters of Pushkar Lake. Let us check out the benefits of taking a sacred bath in Pushkar Lake during the Kartik Maas.

Pushkar Mela 2023: Significance Of Taking A Holy Dip In Pushkar River
It is thought that the Pushkar Lake originated miraculously and that Brahma carried out a yajna on its banks. The holy water and sacredness of Pushkar Lake are well-known. It is most auspicious to take a holy bath between three and six in the morning on the day of Kartik Purnima, or the full moon, which falls sometime in November. Lighted and left to drift over the hallowed lake are delicate clay lamps resting on leafy platters. Thousands of people gather at Pushkar, take a holy dip in the lake each day for five days, and attend worship at the Brahma temple to commemorate the Great Yagna. People attending this fair from all different religious backgrounds are one of its most notable characteristics.

The most significant among Pushkar's 400 temples include those honouring Lord Brahma, Shiva, Badri Narayan, Rangjee, Gayatri, Savitri, and Lord Vishnu's Varaha avatar. The lake is oval in shape and has 52 ghats surrounding it that were constructed over the years by various monarchs and nobles. The three principal ghats are Gau Ghat, Brahma Ghat, and Varaha Ghat. Additionally, the Nimbarkacharya and Vallabhacharya communities have seats there. Madhyama, Kanishtha, and Jyeshtha are the three Pushkars. This last one is called 'Boodha Pushkar' in popular parlance. Walking to the three Pushkars and offering oblations is called "Panch-kosi-Parikrama" since it covers a distance of 16 km.
