Radha Ashtami 2023: The auspicious day for the devotees of Shrimati Radha Rani, the eternal consort of Krishna is recognized as Radha Ashtami as it is the birth anniversary of the divine goddess. This sacred day is also known as Radha Jayanti. Shrimati Radha Rani is revered by many beautiful names such as Kishori Ji, Laadli Juu, and Radhika Rani. According to sacred Hindu texts, Shrimati Radha Rani was born on the eighth day of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. In Vrindavan, Mathura, Barsana, the birthplace of Shri Radha, and Iskcon temples, where devotees worship goddess Radha and Krishna together with maximum devotion, the celebrations are very extensive and commemorated with great splendour and grandeur. This year, Radha Ashtami will be celebrated on 23rd September, 2023 (Saturday).

Radha Ashtami 2023 Significance 

Shrimati Radha Rani is very dear to lord Krishna and is known to be his potent energy. On this auspicious day of Shri Radha Ashtami, devotees pray to Radha Rani, who is revered as the mother of the entire universe, for the gift of Krishna-bhakti (devotion to Lord Krishna). A person can atone for all of their sins by observing the Radha Ashtami fast and worshipping Radha Rani and lord Krishna. Radha Ashtami is a significant festival, and individuals who fast on this day are said to be granted happiness and success in their lives. The 'Radha Ashtami Mantra' or the 'Radha Gayatri Mantra' are said to be powerful tools for overcoming challenges and achieving salvation, and performing aarti with complete devotion is also said to be beneficial on this day.

Radha Ashtami 2023 Puja Vidhi 

On the day of Radha Ashtami, devotees fast with a pure heart and unwavering devotion. The idols (vigrah) of Lord Krishna and Radha Rani are bathed with “Panchamrit” during the mid-day with complete love and devotion. Thereafter, the aarti is performed using a lamp and incense sticks, and then the bhog (prasad) is distributed. On this day, worshippers additionally offer the deities dhoop, flowers, incense, akshat, kumkum, roli, and Shringar items.

There is great significance in worshipping Shri Radha Rani and lord Krishna together on the day of Radha Ashtami according to the sacred Hindu scriptures.  Most notably, worshippers worship Goddess Radha at Madhyahna Kala (noon) and recite the Radha Ashtami mantra. In temples, people also gather for services of prayer, chanting and doing Harinam Sankirtan.
