Ratha Saptami 2024: The auspicious Ratha Saptami, additionally known as Magha Saptami, is a sacred Hindu festival that takes place on the seventh day, or Saptami, of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Magha. It is devoted to Lord Surya. People keep a day-long fast, give arghya to the rising sun, and get up early on this particular day. Worshipping the Sun God on this day is said to bring good luck and eliminate one's sins. This year, Ratha Saptami is being celebrated on 16th February 2024.

Ratha Saptami 2024: Significance And Rituals Of This Sacred Day 

Ratha signifies a chariot, whereas Saptami denotes the seventh day. It is believed that the Sun God Surya sets off for the northern hemisphere astride a chariot carried by seven horses, called a Ratha. Surya Jayanti is observed on this day, which is believed to commemorate Lord Surya's birthday. The celebration is connected to a number of tales. Sage Kashyapa and his spouse Aditi are believed to have been bestowed with the incarnation of Lord Surya, one of the Adityas on this significant day. 

Ratha Saptami marks the commencement of the harvest season and the arrival of spring when Lord Surya sets off on his northward journey. Farmers from around the nation visit sun temples to seek Lord Surya's blessings for a bountiful crop and year-round favourable weather.
